Jetlagged

This nice Char was taken on a swung fly!

We made it back home after a brutal red eye flight schedule! Shortly we will have a series of blogs put together from our hosted trip to Alaska. It was absolutely a great time, and each year we travel to Alaska there is always something new going on... I spent most of the trip with switch rod in hand, and getting my casting dialed in for upcoming Lake Erie steelhead runs.

We will also list several great tying events and shows coming up around the region, and in the shop to get you ready for the start of the fall. Stay tuned for more in the next couple of days!

Return To Alaska!

Alaska's Awesome Scenery!
Over the past 3 years we have hosted 4 successful groups (over 70 anglers) to Alaska and Jim Johnson's Naknek River Camp to fish the peak of the Silver Salmon runs, and to chase beautiful Rainbow Trout and Char. We are really excited about this years trip, as we will be filming our groups entire Alaskan experience from start to finish. We will be out of the office from August 16th through August 30th, and I will return all emails and phone messages on my return.
Chasing and sight fishing to big Char is a guest favorite!
Our 2012 Alaska dates are August 18th to 25th! We already have several RSVP's for this week, so if you are interested in going to Alaska next summer with our experienced hosts, we can be contacted with any questions at 888-453-5899 or email us at team@steelheadalleyoutfitters.com.. We have alot of great projects in the works for this fall, that promise to offer exceptional customer care, great new flies and products, and exciting fly fishing destinations worth fishing!
SAO Guide Brett McCrae with some early
season chrome last year!
Yes! The fall runs are right around the corner, but don't get to excited yet.... We will not see anything worth fishing in the Lake Erie Tributaries until early October.. If you noticed I said in the streams? In mid September start looking for Steelhead and Brown Trout on patrol and cruising the surf. The beaches in the east will be your best bet! Early mornings just at sun-up and the evenings after sun-set are the best times to pick up an early season chromer...Also look for good action just before and after storm fronts moving over the lake. Large fly patterns that imitate shad, emerald shiners, and goby are good choices. Our fall steelhead guide schedule is filling nicely, with a few guides only having a few dates left open on their fall calender. If you plan on fishing with us this fall, and need to RSVP and request a guide please let us know. You can fill out our online trip request here Online Guide Trip Request We will have more for you on our return!

Offering World Class Chilean Fly Fishing At The Picacho Lodge in 2012!

Hi Everyone!

This past February I spent the entire month in Chile fly fishing some of the most pristine and remote river systems the country has to offer. I fished everything from small remote streams, to large rolling rivers, and secluded glacial lakes, in search of trophy class brown and rainbow trout. Fishing and hosting trips to Chile has been a life long dream that has now become reality. In the off season between my guiding duties with Steelhead Alley Outfitters and the West Branch Angler, I will be personally hosting each trip to the remote Picacho Lodge in Southern Chile in 2012.

John Miller poses with a remote stream raised Chilean Brown Trout!

As many of you know I take my guiding and client experiences very seriously, and I work with two of the most reputable outfitters in their specific regions for this reason. I have spent the last 20 years of my life guiding, and my offered trips to Chile will not be the commercialized for the masses type trip typically offered by a fly shop... You will be staying in  rustic comfort, eat and drink like a king, and fly fish remote streams and lakes that are not shared by other outfitters. I want you to experience Chile the way I see it, a place a fly fishing guide goes on his/her vacation.

Sit Back And Enjoy A Miller High Life!

Johnny Miller has been living it up this summer on the West Branch of the Delaware River. Here is a photo essay on a few fish from the East's best brown trout fishery... Words would only ruin it! If you would like to catch a few Delaware River Brown Trout of your own, John can be reached at the West Branch Angler.
