Sunny....85....and quality fish!!

BASS! Large and Small (mouth). Had a great few days on the water this past week...fishing top water with poppers, stripping streamers, and catching a variety of fish in addition to our intended Smallmouth target.  Before we get into last week...I have to give my daughter Mya props - she landed her first smallmouth on the fly a few weeks ago, and it was a sweet event!

Not bad for a first!

Strip...strip...pause...BOOM!

Fellow Guide Patrick Robinson threw on a popper and hammered this guy.

Pearl white was the preferred meal on the day... 80% of the fish were caught on that color, including this healthy bronze back...

I just about lost this one...he took me deep into the weeds. Not quite a fist mouth, but close.

Conservatively...10 of these handsome Rock Bass came to hand, and they were a blast!

Last but not least, this photo had to be taken to show the kids...

If you are looking to get the rod out for some warm water fun....the time is now. We will be back on the water this week so give us a call.

Cheers To Bent Rods,

Ben Barger

Get Your Bass Off The Couch!

Right now the Smallmouth Bass fishing has been good with plenty of fish willing to play. The area tributaries are at their usual low/clear conditions, so long leaders, good casting, and slow retrieves are required if you want to be successful. The best flies have been basic Black, Olive, Rusty colored Woolly buggers with no flash or weight added, foam dries and hoppers, and Schultzy's Low Water Crayfish was by far my top producer for stubborn and finicky bass.

We have limited availability going into June, if you want to take a shot at a few trophy caliber Lake Erie Smallmouth Bass let us know we would love to get you out. Here is a link to our easy online Trip RSVP form.

June 2-3 2012 Free Demo Days at Schultz Outfitters! 2 full days and a full schedule of events on everything you need to get in the game! To check out all the details Click Here. I hope to see you there! Here's a few photos of some fun in the sun...

Grand River On The Endangered Rivers List!

Reading or hearing that a river near you is in danger, would and should start to make anyone think about the future. I will say it is very sad to see how many rivers and streams that are effected by mining, fracking, and the construction of dams. What comes to mind most recently is the pebble mine project in AK.

At the same time I understand the need for resources, but with technology where it is today are we really in need of fossil fuels as our primary energy source? Shouldn't we be progressing say as fast as our iphones? Or is the big business of oil and coal holding us back. Yes, I know it's all about the Benjamin's!

I can tell you first hand I am not any type of tree hugger nor have I been the most environment friendly person with what type of car I drive, how I recycle, and the products I buy.  To see Ohio's Grand River listed as #6 in this countries Most Endangered Rivers List, was to say the least frighting and eye opening. Check out the link below that Brett McCrae just sent over...

The Grand River is Ohio's crown jewel steelhead fishery.

The Grand River provides prime habitat for numerous wildlife and recreational opportunities for the public.
